With the new Espey WKA1200-Cartridge, EagleBurgmann Espey is setting a new standard for carbon floating ring seal technology. Building on the success of the Espey WKA1200, the new cartridge version is the first to combine the shaft sleeve, seal, and housing components into a fully balanced, ready-to-install unit.

The shaft sleeve is a central functional element in the sealing unit. It not only protects, but also actively contributes to the operational safety and longevity of the entire system.

Shaft protection
The shaft sleeve prevents direct contact between the shaft and the carbon brushes. This is especially useful during startups or malfunctions, when brief contact may occur.

Preventing shaft damage
Even when the seal is not in contact with the shaft, vibrations, particles, or thermal expansion can leave marks on it. In such cases, the sleeve provides wear protection.

Hardness and material quality
Long-term durability against high pressures, temperatures, and sliding speeds requires a defined surface hardness of the shaft sleeve.

Interchangeability and ease of maintenance
Unlike the shaft, the sleeve can easily be replaced in the event of wear or damage. This significantly reduces maintenance costs and machine downtime.

The sleeve's design provides a precise, rotationally symmetrical sealing surface, which optimizes the performance of the contactless carbon floating ring seal.
